Being away, you forget, how dark the long dreary winter days in the North can be, and how great the influence of light is upon us. We praise what little sunshine we get - we take deep breaths, filling our lungs, and we ask the Sun to stay.
End of December (on the 21st or 22nd of December, depending on the year) is the turning point in the northern hemisphere - the days start getting longer again.
